Dr. Nikia Belcher, LLMFT
Dr. Nikia Belcher brings a diverse and impactful background in both education and mental health, shaped by years of experience working with a broad spectrum of clientele. Her academic and professional journey has cultivated a deep understanding of the importance of flexibility, cultural responsiveness, and adaptability as a therapist and educator.
Driven by a desire to impact educational equity, Nikia pursued and earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction. Her dissertation, The Disproportionate Suspension of African American Students in Public Schools: A Delphi Study, examined the systemic disparities in disciplinary actions in Michigan public schools. Grounded in Critical Race Theory and the Cultural-Ecological Theory, her research explored why African American students are suspended or expelled for minor offenses at significantly higher rates than their white peers. Her enduring passion for growth, advocacy, and service led Nikia to pursue a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT). She recognized the powerful intersection between mental health, relationships, and education and envisioned a career that bridges both fields. Combining her doctoral training in educational leadership with her clinical expertise in MFT, Nikia is uniquely positioned to provide integrated support to students, couples, families, and organizations. Additionally, her work focuses on consulting with schools and institutions, rehabilitation courts to address systemic barriers, enhance client well-being, and deliver culturally responsive mental health services. |
