Relationships are one of the essential aspects of our lives. When we engage in relationships with others it is not a falling into, but, when done with intention, a giving to. In the context of couple and family therapy, we each have a greater opportunity to heal past and current relationship wounds. It my hope to improve individual’s ability to give to and to receive love in their relationships. The focus of my work is primarily with couples and families, using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) though a family systems lens. Additionally, I apply Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy, somatic interventions and some aspects of the Gottman method (level 2 training). In each modality, I have sought further training and will continue to do so.
If you are not familiar with Emotionally Focused Therapy, this approach applies science-backed knowledge of attachment and family systems to improve relationships within couples and families. You can expect to find a safe environment to increase the ability to build new relational skills through emotional exploration and support. I may direct participants to their physiological experiences to increase their ability to develop awareness and share this with the people whom they share their lives. I am open to working with children and adolescents and incorporate play and art interventions, however, I typically only work with minors if family members are willing to get involved in treatment. This is based on the family systems approach that considers that individual family members thrive when experiencing increased connection in their circles, which you will find throughout my work. I particularly enjoy working with non-traditional couples and families including diverse gendered couples/parents, addiction, C-PTSD, PTSD, addiction, intimacy concerns, couples and families impacted by the family court system, older couples in their second marriage, and family and friend systems. I have an interest in working with couples where one or both partners have OCD, as well as family systems with an adolescent or teen with disordered eating. Prior to my career as an LMFT I have over 18 years of experience working with family systems where a member of the family has an acquired or congenital disability. These experiences assist me in working with couples/families who are impacted by disability including neurodivergence, traumatic brain injuries, and ADHD. All evening appointment times are currently filled but accepting daytime slots. |
